This series of self-portraits was inspired by the history of Catholic church, specifically the Celtic Tiger era in Ireland. I demonstrate four personas: The Virgin Mary, Sister Mary, Mary Magdalene, and The Fallen Mary (one of the “fallen women” from the Magdalene Laundries). Through the consistency of the individual in each image, I address issues of stigma and purity in the female identity.
